Black TYA Shows licenses plays and musicals that center black stories.
Founder Tyrone L. Robinson is an ASCAP Frederick Loewe Award winning composer/lyricist and writer. His music was featured at New York’s Public Theatre in Bliss by Jerome A. Parker which starred Tony Award winner Andre DeShields and Daphne Rubin-Vega (Rent).
Robinson has had writing commissions at TheatreWorks USA, First Stage Milwaukee, Children’s Theatre of Charlotte, and The Kennedy Center and his play Strong Inside, adapted from the New York Times best-selling book Strong Inside by Andrew Maraniss, had its world premiere at Nashville Children’s Theatre in 2023.
An alumnus of the BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Writing Workshop in New York City and New York University's Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program, Tyrone earned a M.F.A. degree and loves collaboration.
